Imbolc

(im-bohlk) / (im-bohlg)

February 2

Imbolc shows us a glimmer of Spring to come. During this time, we celebrate Brigid, a Goddess of healing, fire, the sun, and the hearth. In Gaelic, “imbolg” means “in the belly”, and this Sabbat represents just that. The earth is fertile, and we are expecting new life and rebirth.

One way to honor Brigid, Celtic Goddess & Patron Saint of Ireland

Making Brigid's Crosses are one way to honor the Goddess Brigid and celebrate Imbolc. The crosses are commonly hung by the door to protect the home from fire and evil. Brigid’s crosses are part of a very old pagan tradition, and the Goddess Brigid dates back to the Tuatha Dé Danann (pre-Christianity).
