The Circle

Not that long ago and just in our own backyards, we formed a magickal circle.

We didn’t know why we needed each other but the draw was there, even for some of us who had forgotten how to trust. We are powerful and capable but balancing obligations and desires can drain your spirit cup down to nothing. Remember that good old saying, “You can’t pour from an empty cup?” Every single one of us was using a sponge to soak up the last drops.

Love and Light is something we all want, but when you are faced with anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, chronic pain, PTSD or any other of the number of things that can chill our hearts to the idea of participating in a community, it’s hard to put your own dim love beams into the universe.

Luckily we found the moon.

We would meet just once a month; some of us that’s all we could manage, some couldn’t manage that. We connected over social media and shared interests; primarily nerd fandom, food and stories, making jewelry for each other, and standing by through dark emotional storms. We formed an inner language; one that told us how to refill our cups and we used it to swear that self-care would become central alongside supporting our new community.

Many of the women in the circle have practiced for a long time, decades even. Many more were yearning for a connection to the divine, and the moon offered a simple well lit gathering place.

We learned to build fires.

We learned to hold hands.

We learned to sing.

That was the moment it clicked for me personally. Singing around a flame hands clasped with witches- I didn’t believe some fantasy magic was going to happen and we would all start levitating with glowing soft, dewie light as flowers sprouted beneath us. Although that would have been cool, right? But suddenly I believed in our power. There was a mysterious charge even though we had no clue what we were doing. Making up a ritual to bind ourselves in love and chanting together empowered the growth of our connection.

That is how we became dedicated to each other.

Soon we found ourselves more dedicated to magic. The thing that brought us all together originally. Minds honed for research and practice brought us all closer to witchcraft. We taught each other what we knew, we learned Tarot cards and herbs together, we foraged together, and we chatted late at night together.

Month by month our love of each other and the moon grew, as well as our knowledge. We found peace in creating for ourselves and each other.

Spells grew in power because we grew in power.

So our circle was truly formed. Each moon cycle we meet when she is at her fullest to share in our grief and triumphs within a strong circle powered by love. Created originally as a safe space of support we realized that we could spread more joy and create a sense of connection for witches everywhere.

Now we are launching our hearts out into the universe with Stag & Moon; creative souls, Brujas, herbalists, shadow workers, clairvoyants, indigenous teachers, hedgewitches, alchemists, and some still undecided folx, band together to bring out the inner power of each witch we reach. Offering magickal supplies for the modern witch is a way to connect us crafters together, share our individual cultures and practices, and join together in group ritual. We can’t wait to explore with you!
